WHAT IS FLAG FOOTBALL?

  1. Flag Football is an adapted, non-contact version of kitted American Football.

  2. The game incorporates many of the same skills, techniques and tactics.

  3. Each team has five players on the field at any given time, with one team on Offense and one team on Defense.

  4. The aim is to outscore your opponents by scoring touchdowns, which are worth six points.

  5. However, unlike its kitted cousin, there are no pads or helmets. Instead, players wear belts with “flags”.

  6. The Offense begins with the ball and attempts to move it down the field, towards their opponent’s goalline.

  7. The Offence has four plays (called “downs”) to pass the halfway line, and a further four plays to reach the endzone.

  8. The Offence can either run with the ball or pass it to a player downfield – just like in American Football.

  9. The Defence tries to prevent the Offence from scoring by grabbing the flag from the ball carrier’s belt.

  10. If the Defense has any players that can catch, it can also end the play with an interception.
